College Prep Systems

College expects incoming freshmen to know many things: math, science, history, how to read and write well. Everyone knows that. But what everyone might not know is that college expects you to have good executive functioning skills too. What are these skills? Well, there are quite a few. To name some:

  • Staying focused

  • Holding information in your mind

  • Getting started in tasks (initiating)

  • Breaking down steps into parts and following them

  • Physically organizing your spaces and stuff

  • Regulating your emotions

  • Controlling your impulses

If your kid struggles with these skills, no matter how smart they are, how good they are at school, how much they want to be there and learn, they will struggle in college. Fortunately for you, I’m running a workshop to help your child with all of the above and much more.

What is College Prep Systems?

College Prep Systems is a four week workshop in July. We will meet once per week on Mondays. Every session is focused on something different, but they all tie in together. It’s a small group and I’m there live, so I can answer any questions that come up. It’s tailored for each and every person in the workshop, and parents also get a debrief after each session. This isn’t tutoring or college application help; this is for the transition from high school to college. It teaches the students how to help themselves instead of doing it for them.

The Schedule

I said earlier that each session is focused on something different, so you may be wondering what each session is focused on.

Session 1: July 6

Your Executive Functioning Profile

In this first session, your kid will figure out exactly what they’re good at and what they need to work on.

Session 11: July 13

A Planning System Designed For Your Brain

The second session is designed to help your kid find a planning system that works for them, whether it’s a simple calendar, a planner, or something completely unique.

Session 111: July 20

Your Individual Nuclear Code

The third session is focused on task initiation and emotional regulation. Your kid can soar, but only if they can get out of the nuclear silo.

Session 1v: July 27

Now Put It All Together

The last session is the glue: you kid will take everything they learned and make a plan to be ready for college.

Logistics

We’ll meet on Mondays, July 6, 13, 20, and 27, from 7-8pm ET. It’s live on Google Meet and there only a few students per cohort: 6-8.

Pricing

Each student is $1,233. However, the founding cohort is $924 per student. The founding-cohort rate is this summer only. Standard rate begins September 1.

FAQ

Q: What if my student misses a session?

A: I know that parents and their kids have busy schedules. I’ll send the student a recording and a recap of the session. The following week, they can ask any questions they might have from the missed session. However, missing more than one session significantly decreases the strength of the workshop.

Q: Is this for students with ADHD?

A: I designed this course, so this works very well with students that have ADHD. But your student does not need to have ADHD for this to be helpful; everything is made to fit your student.

Q: How is this different from a study skills class?

A: Study skills are manifestations of executive functioning skills. I teach the foundational skills to succeed in college. Study skills can’t form until executive functioning skills do.

Q: What’s the refund policy?

A: I give a full refund up to one week prior to the first session (June 29). There are no refunds after the first session.
